ORANGE CITY, Iowa (April 14, 2022) -Â The Buena Vista University Women's Track and Field Team hit the road for the Red Raider Open this week as it looked to build momentum with the conference meet looming in the near future. The women continued to show out with over 20 top-5 finishes at this meet.
Starting in the field events,
Becca Simpson once again led the way for the lady throwers. She started off the meet with a first-place finish in the hammer throw with a throw of 51.11m. She was followed by
Anna Friedrichsen in 3
rd and
Peyton Turner in 4
th. She also captured 1
st place in the shot put with a throw of 13.76m. She was not alone as
Annie Brennan got 4
th with a throw of 11.81m and
Courtney Johnson got 5
th with a throw of 11.50m.
Moving to the track,
Wren Klump had a long two-day meet as she competed in the heptathlon. She got 2
nd place overall and accumulated 2,975 points. The team kept the good times rolling in on this windy day with a 1
st place finish by
Katara Jondle in the 100m dash, a 2
nd place finish in the 200m dash by
Kylie Johnston, and a 3
rd place finish in the 400m dash by
Jade Hays.
Senior
Tabitha Guyett ran her season debut 400m hurdle and took 5
th place overall at the meet. Lastly, the 4x100 meter team took home gold to end off an impressive showing by the Beavers.
The BVU Track & Field Team will be heading out of state next weekend as they look to take on South Dakota. This meet will take place on April 22
nd at the University of South Dakota's outdoor track.
