STORM LAKE, Iowa (March 16, 2022) - The Buena Vista baseball team returns home Wednesday evening to host Morningside University in a late addition to the schedule.

ABOUT MORNINGSIDE: The Mustangs, members of the Great Plains Athletics Conference (GPAC), have won two straight and give of their last six games overall entering this afternoon.  The team recently wrapped up its spring trip to Auburndale, Fla., where it went 4-1 overall.  Today will be the team's first true road game of the season.  The Mustangs are coming off a 26-30 season a year ago where it also went 16-12 in the GPAC.
 
Offensively, the team has shown its offensive power in the early going, having already hit 12 home runs and have 50 extra-base hits in their 126 total base knocks.  The team has a .339 batting average and a .556 slugging percentage.  Jayson Willers leads the way with a .486 average, is second with 18 hits and 15 RBI.  Aiden Bishop has three triples, two doubles, 12 RBI while sitting just behind Willers with a .484 average.  Ale Calabrese and Hunter Jenkins have each blasted three home runs and have combined for 19 RBI.
 
On the mound, Caleb Thomson has made four starts and is 1-1 with a 9.64 ERA while working a team-leading 14.0 innings.  Wade Canaday has pitched 12.0 innings over two starts and sports a 1.42 ERA with 14 strikeouts and four walks.  As a staff, the Mustangs hold a 4.79 ERA.

ABOUT BVU
The Beavers return home from Arizona looking to snap a three game losing streak. The Beavers started the trip hot, winning four of five before dropping the final three games. Evan Taylor enters Wednesday's action after having earned A-R-C Position Player of the Week. The freshman infielder batted .486 on the week, with multiple hits in six of the eight games in Arizona. Taylor was 17-for-35 from the plate with 10 runs, nine RBIs, three doubles, two triples, two homeruns, and four walks. Zack Beekman currently leads the A-R-C in homeruns and ranks among the A-R-C's leaders in batting. The junior first baseman ranks fourth with a 0.333 average.

Freshman pitcher, Mark Eddie currently ranks 9th in the A-R-C with a 2.76 ERA. Dalton Glenn and Mason Gehling have also made three starts and have each pitched over 10 innings.  Morgan Smith has worked a team-high 10.0 innings of relief and is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA.  As a staff, BVU has a 6.68 ERA despite striking out 94 batters and walking only 51 over 94.0 innings. 

ON DECK: The Beavers will head to Mankato, Minn., on Saturday for a doubleheader against Bethany Lutheran College. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
