GRINNELL, Iowa (February 12, 2022) - The Buena Vista University women's track and field team chalked up six individual championships and totaled 132.5 points en route to a second-place overall team finish during the Darren Young Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Grinnell College.
Senior
Becca Simpson captured two of those titles by winning both the weight throw and shot put. She set a new school record in the weight throw with a heave of 55-9.75 and is currently ranked fourth in the A-R-C. In the shot, she posted a season-best mark of 43-2.25 and sits fifth in the league. Anna Brennan was right behind Simpson in second place in the shot put with a season-best mark of 42-8.75.
Senior
Emily Hoesing came up big for the Beavers by winning the 3,000-meter run in 11:05.51. She won the event by six seconds with her season-best clocking and jumps to 15th in the A-R-C rankings.
Katara Jondle captured gold in the 200-meter dash with her clocking of 26.60 which has her ranked 10th among the A-R-C's top performers this season.
Jade Hays was third in the event and less than a full second behind Jondle. Jondle also went on to take second in the 60-meter dash in 8.11 which was also her fastest time in the event this season.
Jessica Sump also had a big day by claiming individual titles in both the 60-meter hurdles and the long jump. She posted a season-best time of 9.40 seconds in the hurdles and took the top spot in the long jump with a leap of 5.30 meters which came up just short of her season-best mark of 5.31 meters at the Grinnell College Invite earlier this season.
Latrice Hodges added a third-place effort in the mile run with Jordyn Forbes crossing in third during the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.53 which was just .15 seconds of the school record.
Nebraska Wesleyan edged BVU by just 5.5 points for the team title. The Beavers are scheduled to host the NJCAA Regional Meet on February 18 and 19 inside of the Lamberti Recreation Center on the BVU campus.
