Jackson Jones scored a career-high 11 points off the bench and grabbed nine boards while
Jacob Gaudreau also added a career-best 11 points, but it was the visiting Prairie Wolves of Nebraska Wesleyan escaping with a 62-56 victory over Buena Vista inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.
The duo combined to go 5-of-16 from long range in the contest as BVU finished just 7-of-33 from distance, including a 1-of-16 start in the first half.Â
Gunner Reed chimed in with six points and six rebounds off the bench as only seven different players scored for the Beavers in the contest.
Both teams struggled to get shots to fall in the first half with NWU going 36 percent overall while the Beavers were under 22 percent. BVU did manage to keep within striking distance by going a perfect 8-of-8 at the free-throw line while the Prairie Wolves were 0-of-3.
The Beavers did connect on 6-of-17 from behind the arc over the final 20 minutes and converted 9-of-11 from the line, but would shoot just 29 percent from the field to finish the game at 25.8 percent.
NWU built a 46-36 cushion midway through the second half before BVU began slowly chipping away. Back-to-back three-point buckets from Gaudreau and
Michael Santich brought the Beavers within four with 5:08 left to play before Santich sunk a pair of free-throws to tie the game at 53-53 with 3:58 remaining.
After the Prairie Wolves went back up by four, Jones came back with a bucket and free-throw to make it a one-point game but the Beavers then had multiple shot attempts rim our while NWU made five free-throws in the closing seconds to hold stake to the six-point win.
Peter Lash, who made all five free-throws down the stretch led NWU with a game-high 24 points and 14 rebounds.
Buena Vista drops to 4-5 overall (0-3 A-R-C) and looks to bounce back on Saturday afternoon as it hosts Luther College (1-, 0-3 A-R-C) at 4 p.m.
