GRINNELL, Iowa (November 8, 2022) - Senior Vanessa Hamlett finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals while Lindsey Anhalt added 12 points and 4 rebounds to help lead the Buena Vista women's basketball team to season-opening 57-47 road victory over Grinnell College.

The first half was tightly contested with the Beavers holding a one point lead at half. BVU managed to find another gear after returning for the second half, using a 17-8 third quarter push. Trailing as much as 13 at one point in the third quarter, the Pioneers showed some resiliency, threatening to comeback before Emily Newton hit a three point dagger with 1:30 left to put the game out of reach.

The Beavers received contributions from across the team tonight. Emerson Else had an impactful game finishing with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. McKenna Cone contributed 8 points, 5 rebounds, and a steal. The Beavers had a lot of contributions from freshmen with a handful of players making their collegiate debuts. Danika Demers was one of those freshmen finishing with 6 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Jenna Hallock contributed 6 points and 2 rebounds while Maddie Hilgendorf added 5 rebounds and an assist.
