LAST WEEK: The Beavers had a bye last week and last played on Oct. 29 when the team hosted No. 15 Wartburg College on Senior Day. The Knights took advantage of seven BVU turnovers in the game en route to a 65-0 shutout inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium. Buena Vista was held to 108 yards of offense while Wartburg chalked up 522.
About Simpson - The Storm are looking to bounce back following an 81-9 road loss a week ago at No. 15 Wartburg. The team notched its first win of the season a week before at home over Nebraska Wesleyan, 74-41. During conference play this season, the Storm have allowed over 40 points in five of the seven games with opponents going over 60 in four of them. The team is ranked sixth in the A-R-C by averaging 24.0ppg against league opponents and ninth in points allowed per contest at 54.0ppg. A large deal of the team's success has come through the air where it ranks third in passing offense at 302.7ypg compared to 87.7ypg on the ground. Quarterback J Jensen III leads the A-R-C in passing yards per outing at 282.6. He is second in passing yards at 1,978 and in touchdown passes with 17. His top target on the year, Reed Worth, also sits among the league lead in receiving yards per game at 112.3. For the year, Worth is closing in on 1,100 yards receiving and has hauled in 13 total touchdowns. The Storm have struggled to get pressure into the backfield on the defensive end with only five sacks and 33 tackles for loss.
About Buena Vista: The Beavers look to close out the season on a high note by winning two of its final three contests with a win Saturday over Simpson. The team has scored over 40 points in each of its two A-R-C victories this season and will face a Simpson team on Saturday which is allowing over 54.0ppg during league play. Despite the tough loss two weeks ago against No. 15 Wartburg prior to the bye week, BVU has been relatively balanced on the offensive side down the stretch. The team put up a season-high 218 yards rushing at Nebraska Wesleyan three weeks ago to go along with nearly 280 more yards through the year. The game prior to that, the offense chalked up over 115 yards rushing against Central while passing for 259 more. Sophomore running back Mason Griffith is averaging 80.0ypg over his last three, including 102 against the Dutch. He's moved up to fourth in the league at 67.7yp during conference play. A win over the Storm also gives BVU at least three conference wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since it did so in three straight seasons from 2012-14.
UP NEXT - The game with Simpson concludes the 2022 season for BVU.
