STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 19, 2022) - The Buena Vista women's soccer team hosted Central College on a cool and sunny evening along the lakeshore, but the Beavers fell behind early in the contest and were never able to recover en route to a 5-0 Dutch victory inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium on Pink Out Night.
Central (8-5-2, 2-3-1 A-R-C)Â jumped in front in the first six minutes as Paige Cahill found both Amber Santana before she found Grace Coates for a second goal just 12 minutes later that led to a 2-0 halftime margin. The Dutch then made it 3-0 nearly 90 seconds into the second half on a ball that was sent high into the air about 20 yards out directly in front of the goal but was deflected backwards into the goal as
Trisha Westphal came out from her keeper spot to try and intercepted the feed. Central later added two goals over the final 10 minutes for the final tally.
It was a defensive battle throughout most of the first half with Central holding just an 8-2 edge in total shots. The Dutch put the pressure on the Beavers in the second with 20 additional shot attempts, including nine on-goal. Westphal finished the match with 11 saves.
Kylee Brown and
Madyline Taylor each turned in one shot for BVU with neither attempt landing on-goal.
Buena Vista is now 4-10-1 on the year and drops to 0-6 in league play. The Beavers will wrap up the home slate on Saturday afternoon against No. 17 Loras College at 1:00 p.m.
