Jake Thompson dished out his first career triple-double and
Michael Demers scored a game-high 21 points to help lead a balanced and efficient Buena Vista men's basketball team to a strong 88-74 road win at Simpson College on Wednesday night.
Thompson's historic night included 10 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high 12 assists. Demers made 8-of-14 shots overall, including 4-of-5 from downtown and moves within two made treys of sixth-place on the program's all-time list.Â
Garrett Sittner chimed in with 16 points while
Zane Neubaum added 13.
Buena Vista shot over 52 percent from the field in each half and ended at 52.9 percent, including one if its better three-point shooting efforts at 10-of-26. Â
The Beavers used the long ball in the first half (7-of-15) to help them build a 46-33 halftime cushion. The lead grew to as many as 23 in the second half as BVU was able to maintain the large advantage throughout most of the final 20 minutes as the Storm were unable to get back any closer than 14 on the game's final bucket.
Caden Rehmeier turned in 15 points to lead three Simpson players in double figures. The loss is the sixth in a row for the Storm which drops to 4-9 overall (1-3 A-R-C).
Buena Vista has now won four of its last five outings overall to improve to 6-8 on the year (3-2 A-R-C). The Beavers go after their fourth straight conference win when they host Coe College on Saturday, January 8, at 4:00 p.m.
