STORM LAKE, Iowa (January 26, 2022) - A big second half on Wednesday night helped send the Buena Vista University women's basketball team to a convincing 63-45 American Rivers Conference home victory over Nebraska Wesleyan which completes the regular season sweep of the Prairie Wolves.
Mallory McCall was 7-of-13 shooting from the field and turned in a team-leading 18 points for the Beavers while
Lindsey Anhalt turned in a monster game with 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds en route to her first career double-double.Â
Hannah Whitver was 5-of-6 from the charity stripe and chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds. Â
The Beavers held a 35-30 advantage at the half but would come out of the locker room and outscore the Prairie Wolves, 11-4, in the third quarter to take a double-digit lead into the final frame. NWU was never able to mount any sort of rally as BVU built its largest lead of 59-39 midway through the period.
Buena Vista finished the game shooting just under 40 percent overall while connecting on 4-of-10 from downtown and 17-of-23 at the free-throw line. The Beavers were able to turn its defense into offensive by forcing 17 turnovers and scoring 17 points off those turnovers, including 16 fast break points.
Nebraska Wesleyan shot under 28 percent overall from the field in the contest and made just 3-of-16 long range attempts as the Prairie Wolves drop to 3-14 overall (1-8 A-R-C).
The Beavers improve to 5-10 on the year and 3-6 A-R-C and will play host to Luther College (7-9, 4-3 A-R-C) on Saturday, January 29, at 2:00 p.m.
