Football Looks to Even Record as it Takes on Northwestern

STORM LAKE, Iowa (September 10) - The Buena Vista University football team is set to take on its first road test of the 2021 campaign when it plays at the Universtiy of Northwestern (Minn.) on Saturday night in a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.

The Beavers look to bounce back after dropping a wild season opener at home last Saturday night against Gustavus Adolphus, 80-58.  BVU chalked up nearly 600 yards of total offense, inlcuding a school-record 554 yards by sophomore quarterback Brandon Kyles.  Senior wideout Eric Pacheco accounted for 210 of those yards, as he hauled in a pair of touchdown passes on 10 total catches, including a 72-yard catch and score.  Late in the game, he became the program's all-time career leader in receiving yards and now stands with 3,047, while moving into a tie for second in career touchdown passes with 25.  The Beavers built an early 16-7 advantage before the Gusties used a 24-point second quarter to lead 38-30 at the break.  It was a 66-58 contest late in the fourth quarter before Gustavus Adolphus took advantage of three BVU turnovers in the final five minutes to extend the lead to the final margin.

Inside the Series - Saturday will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

About Northwestern - The Eagles played at #5 Wheaton College during the opening weekend last Saturday and were blanked by the Thunder, 56-0.  The Eagles were held to only 113 total yards of offense and nine first downs.  The team played a pair of games last spring and went 1-1.  It's coming off a 2019 season that saw them finish 4-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

UP NEXT - The Beavers will begin American Rivers Conference play next Saturday, September 18, at Loras College.  Kickoff inside the Rock Bowl is set for 1:00 p.m.
