STORM LAKE, Iowa (April 7, 2021) -
Braedan Evans and
Zachary Tretler each scored goals for the Buena Vista men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon, but it was Nebraska Wesleyan finding the back of the net with just under one minute left in regulation en route to a 3-2 victory over the Beavers inside J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.
Evans broke a scoreless contest seven minutes into the second half as he took a nice lead in pass from the far side from
Eduardo Garcia and he was able to slip past the keeper for his second goal of the young season. The Prairie Wolves pulled even during the 66' when they came up with a loose ball just in front of the net and punched it through from about 10 yards out.
NWU jumped in front for the first time late in the 74th minute before  Tretler sent a header into the net on a nice lead-in pass from
Jovani Gomez directly off a corner kick which tied things back up at 2-2 just two minutes later. That's how things stood until there was 54 seconds left to play in regulation when the Prairie Wolves scored the game-winner off a cross field pass from the near side that was kicked through just in front of the net.
Tretler led BVU with four shots, including two on-goal, with Evans' goal standing as the team's only other shot-on-goal.
The Prairie Wolves (2-2, 2-2 A-R-C) tallied 22 shots overall and had 11 on-goal.Â
Isaiah Thomas registered eight saves for the Beavers as he went the distance in-goal.
Buena Vista is now 0-4 overall (0-4 A-R-C). The team is set to play again at home this Saturday afternoon when it hosts Loras College at 3:30 p.m.
