STORM LAKE, Iowa (April 3, 2021) - The Buena Vista offense couldn't get the big hits when it needed them on Saturday afternoon as the Beavers dropped the final two games of the four-game series with Coe College by scores of 6-2 and 13-1 (7 innings).
The Kohawks picked up a 2-run single in the first inning of the opener and went on to score runs in four of the first five innings to build a 6-0 lead. BVU got an RBI double from senior
Tyler Tennyson in the sixth for its first run and later got an RBI single from
Caden Mathewson for the game's final score.
Tennyson finished the contest 3-for-4 with
Caden Mathewson adding two hits. Jordan Matheweson picked up his sixth double of the year for the team's other extra-base hit.
Dalton Glenn was tagged for five runs (four earned) over four innings of work while striking out four. Â
It was all Kohawks in the finale as the visitors scored three times in the third and four in the fourth to break the game open at 8-0. BVU got its only run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly from Grant Oskea before Coe added the game's final three runs in the seventh.
BVU had eight hits in the contest, including two apiece from
Calvin Harris and
Jackson Smith. The Kohawks, who have now won 10 straight games, had 16 hits, including three from Riley LeGrand, who also drove in four.
Garrett Anderson made his first career start and pitched three innings, allowing four runs and six hits.Â
Spencer Holmes was tagged for four runs in just one-third of an inning before
Landon Howard,
Michael Demers and Harris combined to pitch the final 3,2 innings.
Buena Vista falls to 8-9 on the year (6-6 A-R-C) and looks to bounce back at home next weekend when it hosts Luther College in a four-game series. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
