STORM LAKE, Iowa (March 27, 2021) - Wartburg College built a 3-0 halftime lead and then pulled away from the Buena Vista men's soccer team in the second half en route to an 8-0 victory over the Beavers in what was the season opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights scored two of their three first half goals within the opening 12 minutes of the contest. They then used a pair of penalty kicks in the second half to aid a six-goal run to break things open. Wartburg finished with 22 shots to only two for BVU in the contest.
Isaiah Thomas made eight saves in-goal for the Beavers in his debut. Kyle Tremmling scored three times off the bench to help lead Wartburg (1-0, 1-0 A-R-C) while Kevin Duque added two.
Buena Vista (0-1, 0-1 A-R-C) will go on the road this Tuesday (March 30) to play the first of two straight road contests when it faces Simpson College in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
