STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Buena Vista women's soccer team is set to kick-off its season when it plays host Wartburg College on Saturday afternoon inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium. The match marks the first of eight A-R-C contests for BVU that will make up the COVID-19 adjusted spring schedule.

SERIES HISTORY
The two teams will be squaring off for the 21st time with the Knghts holding a 19-1 record all-time over BVU...The Beavers edged Wartburg, 1-0, back in 1998, and since then, the Knights have posted 18 straight victories in the series...BVU's last goal scored came during a 3-1 loss in 2012.
ABOUT WARTBURG
The Knights are coming off a 2019 campaign that saw them go 15-3-3 overall (6-1-1 A-R-C) and capture the league's tournament championship. They received six first-place votes in this year's preseason coaches poll and are the favorites to take home the A-R-C regular season title this spring. The team returns five all-conference performers along with one honorable mention selection to the field this spring. Among that group are junior midfielder, Kate Luers and junior forward, Joy Smith. Luers lead the charge with a team-leading 14 goals and give assists in 2019, with Smith scoring 11 goals and dishing out seven assists. As a team that season, the Knights ranked second in the A-R-C with 26 goals scored during conference play while allowing only five.
ABOUT BUENA VISTA
BVU will begin its second season under head coach
Benton Frayne this spring and he will have a good mixture of experience returning along with a handful of young talented added to the roster. Overall, five starters are set to return, including junior midfielder,
Nikki Schuppan, who started all 17 games in 2019 and dished out one assist. Senior defender
Madison Field is back and is the only goal scorer returning for the team. Anchoring the back end of the defense will be junior goalkeeper,
McKeely Tjaden, who registered 195 saves as a sophomore. Junior midfielder
Tobi Brich also started all 17 games with sophomore defender
MaryShoko Marugu starting 13. As a team, the Beavers will look to become more of a scoring threat this spring with scoring just six goals overall in 2019.
AROUND THE CORNER
The Beavers will play the first of two straight road games on Wednesday, March 30, when they travel to Simpson College for a 5:00 pm. match against the Storm. Following that will be a road match-up at Luther College on Saturday, April 3, at 2:00 p.m.
