DUBUQUE, Iowa (March 13, 2021) - The Buena Vista volleyball played its final road match of the year on Saturday afternoon, and the Beavers came up on the short end of a 3-0 setback at No. 21 Loras College.
It was all Duhawk in the opening set as they rushed out to an 11-2 lead and went on to win the frame, 25-12. BVU hung tough over the next two sets, as Loras need a 5-0 surge late in the second to overcome a 16-15 Beaver lead and win 25-20. The third set was back-and-forth throughout with things being tied at 21-21 before Loras rolled off three of the next four points to seize control and win 25-23.
Junior
Sydney McLaren led the Beavers with eight kills and 15 digs. Freshman
Rachel Brockney turned in seven kills and four total blocks.Â
Jade Hays had a team-high 20 digs with
Taylor Wedemeyer dishing out 26 assists.
Jade Casper led all players with 13 kills to lead Loras, which improved to 6-1 (5-1 A-R-C).
"Unfortunately, another game where we got in our own way," said BVU head coach
Aubrey Havlichek. "Credit to Loras, they're a tough team and there's a reason they're ranked. Our girls fought back too late and that third set just slipped away. We continue to show up in spurts but that's not enough to win a volleyball match. Rachel was hot in the middle for us and we are excited to build on that while fine tuning some other things. We are excited to get our last two matches at home in front of some awesome fans.
Buena Vista (2-4, 2-4 A-R-C) is set to host Simpson College on Wednesday night (March 17) at 6:00 p.m before wrapping up the year at home against the University of Dubuque on Saturday (March 20) at 2:00 p.m.Â
