CHICAGO, Ill. (November 27, 2021) - Buena Vista senior Michael Demers became the 32nd player in program history to reach 1,000 career points during Saturday afternoon's game at North Park, but it was the host Vikings hanging on to edge the Beavers, 70-66.  

Demers hit a three-pointer in the opening minutes of the second half which put him over the milestone as he finished with seven points and seven rebounds.  Fellow senior Jake Thompson led the team with 17 points, five rebounds and three assists while Garrett SIttner added 11 points and four boards while Trey Valentine chimed in with 10 points and six rebounds.

The game was back-and-forth nearly the entire way with neither team able to post much of a run.  The Vikings led by as many as nine points in the game with that margin coming in the opening minute of the second half.  BVU led by as many as three points early in the first half.

Buena Vista shot 46.7 percent from the field overall and 16-of-22 from the free-throw line.  The Beavers were hampered by a season-high 19 turnovers which in turn led to 21 points by North Park.  

Sittner made a three-pointer to put BVU in front 59-56 with 5:30 left to play but the Vikings would roll off eight straight points to take a 64-59 lead just over three minutes to go.  A layup from Thompson and a three-pointer from Simon Daniel tied things back up at 64-64 with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.  The game was again tied at 66-66 before a bucket and two free-throws from North Park (2-2) down the stretch secured the win.  

Buena Vista drops to 2-4 on the year and will look to get back into win column on Sunday afternoon when the team travels to No. 10  Elmhurst for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off.
