LA CROSSE, Wis. (November 20, 2021) - The Buena Vista men's basketball team was right back on the court Saturday looking for its third straight win when it traveled to #15 UW-La Crosse, but the Beavers came up just short as the Eagles pulled away in the second half to pick up an 83-56 victory.
BVU held a 25-24 lead late with 6:46 left in the opening half before the Eagles closed the period on a 12-3 run to hold a 36-28 advantage. The Beavers kept within striking distance at 51-44 midway through the second half after a layup by
Michael Demers, but UW-La Crosse used a 19-2 charge over the next six minutes to pull away and open up a 70-46 cushion. After shooting nearly 60 percent from the field during Friday night's win at UW-Stout, BVU had a much colder shooting performance against the Eagles, connecting on only 33 percent from the field, including a 4-of-24 clip from downtown.Â
Senior
Garrett Sittner was the only Beaver to score in double figures as he finished with 13 points to go along with five rebounds. Demers was next with eight points while three others chimed in with six.
UW-La Crosse, now 5-0 overall this season, shot 60.1 percent from the field in the second half, including 8-of-11 from distance to aid in the victory. Â
Buena Vista is now 2-2 overall and will look to bounce back on Wednesday afternoon, when it plays its home opener against St. John's University (Minn.) with tip-off inside of Siebens Fieldhouse scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
