DUBUQUE, Iowa (October 22, 2021) - The Buena Vista University volleyball team played the first of two American Rivers Conference road matches this weekend on Friday night when it faced the University of Dubuque and was dealt a tough 3-0 loss that dropped the team into a sixth place tie in the A-R-C standings with the Spartans.
It was a tightly contested match that was back-and-forth throughout. The Spartans finished with only four more total kills than BVU with the Beavers having only three more attack errors than Dubuque. The Spartans recorded seven ace serves while the Beavers had five.
Sydney McLaren and
Kaitie Serkiz each finished with 10 kills to help lead Buena Vista offensively with
Courtney Johnson adding seven. McLaren capped her double-double by also adding 14 digs.Â
Taylor Wedemeyer posted a double-double of her own with 30 assists and 10 digs while also registering two of the team's five ace serves.Â
Jade Hays led the team with 15 digs.
Emma Powell, led all players with 13 kills for the Spartans while finishing with a .333 attack percentage. She also turned in a match-high 18 digs. Darby Hawtrey chipped in with 12 kills and 13 digs.
Buena Vista is now 9-9 overall (2-4 A-R-C) while Dubuque improves to 9-16 (2-4 A-R-C). BVU will now play at Loras College (16-9, 4-3 A-R-C) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday while the Spartans host Nebraska Wesleyan (9-11, 1-5 A-R-C).
