Women's Hoops Fall to Dutch 93-76 in Season Opener

STORM LAKE, Iowa (January 27, 2021) - Sophomore Olivia Larsen turned in a game-high 24 points in her Beaver debut while three others also scored in double figures, but it was Central pulling away late en route to a 93-76 American Rivers Conference victory inside Siebens Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.

The Dutch led 26-19 after one quarter and opened up the game's first double-digit lead with a three-pointer to begin the second.  The Beavers clawed back within five at 43-38 with just over one minute to play in the opening half, but Central rolled off six straight points to build an 11-point advantage at the break.

After trailing by 17 early in the second half, a three-pointer from freshman Megan Morenz midway through the third quarter brought BVU back within five yet again at 57-52.  Central had yet another answer with six straight points and led the Beavers by 10 entering the fourth.  BVU went cold from the field in the fourth quarter, making just 7-of-22 from the field and being held without a three-point make (0-for-5), as the Dutch pulled away en route to the 17-point win.

Larsen was 8-of-19 from the field and 7-of-11 at the charity stripe, while also grabbing eight boards, dishing out four assists and recording three steals.  Freshman Megan Morenz added 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds, Erin Streit had 12 points and Cassy Miller made all three of her long range attempts to finish with 11 points and four assists.

BVU was 42 percent shooting from the field, including 6-of-20 from downtown.  The Beavers out-rebounded the Dutch, 38-35,

Carson Fisk led the way for Central with 22 points as Kelsea Hurley followed with 19.  The Dutch shot 52.8 percent overall and finished with 54 points in te paint.

Central improves to 2-0 overall (2-0 A-R-C) while the Beavers dip to 0-1 (0-1 A-R-C).  BVU is back in action on Saturday night when it hosts Wartburg College inside Siebens Fieldhouse at 7:00 p.m.
