STORM LAKE, Iowa (January 29, 2021) - It was a tough night shooting for the Buena Vista women’s basketball team on Friday night as it fell to Wartburg College, 84-52.
The Beavers came out cold from the floor at the beginning as Wartburg pulled out to a 15-0 lead. Cassy Miller got the team started, followed quickly by a field goal by Megan Morenz and a three-pointer from Jayleen Cole to cut into the lead and get within 19-7 after the first.
After trailing 42-27 at the half, the Beavers came out with a pair of treys from Morenz and Erin Streit and were within 13 midway through the third quarter. Wartburg continued to control the game, however, through offensive rebounds and pulled out to a 20-point lead by the end of the third quarter.  Wartburg continued to extend their lead in the fourth as the Beavers couldn't get their shots to fall.
Junior Jayleen Cole led the Beavers with a career-high 11 points followed by Olivia Larsen with 10. Wartburg’s leading scorers were Payton Draper with 15 points, Jaedon Murphy (13) and Ally Conrad (12).
