ROSEMONT, Ill. (March 6, 2020) - The Buena Vista softball team continued play inside The Dome on Saturday but suffered a pair of two-run losses at the hands of Lake Forest College and UW-Stout, respectively.
In the opener, the Foresters did all their damage in the opening inning, scoring three times in the top of the first on two hits and a pair of Beaver errors. That's how the game stood until BVU got on the board in the fourth with an RBI infield single from
Shelby Gunther. Â
The Beavers were held to only two hits in the contest while Lake Forest had eight, but only five of those after the first.
Carrie Does suffered a tough loss inside the circle as she allowed just three runs and six hits over five innings while striking out three.
Against the Blue Devils, BVU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second but would surrender four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Each team then scored twice in the third before BVU did put together a rally in the seventh that had the tying run on base.Â
Carmen Morrison blasted a one-out solo home run to pull the Beavers within 6-4 before
Carlee Guyett and
Michaela Mason each followed with singles. They were left on first and second as UW-Stout got a pair of fly outs to end the game.
Guyett and Mason, along with
Sydney Carroll, finished with two hits apiece with Guyett also walking and scoring one run. Morrison's home run was the only extra-base hit for the Beavers, who tallied eight overall.
Sophomore
Peyton Gross went the distance inside the circle, allowing just two earned runs and seven hits while striking out four.
Buena Vista dips to 4-6 overall and looks to bounce back on Sunday as it wraps up the three-day trip with games against UW-Stout (11 a.m.) and UW-Oshkosh (1 p.m.), respectively.
