No. 11 Loras Pulls Away in Second Half for 70-50 Victory

STORM LAKE, Iowa (February 5, 2020) - The Buena Vista women's basketball team gave No. 11 Loras College all it could handle in the first half, but the Duhawks broke open a four-point halftime contest with a big third quarter en route to a 70-50 victory over the Beavers on Wednesday night inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.

BVU led 13-12 after one quarter and remained in front by as many as four in the second before Loras (19-2, 10-2 A-R-C) used a 10-0 run to take a six-point lead at 27-21 and never trailed again.  The Duhawks broke open a 31-27 halftime lead by outscoring the Beavers 22-9 in the third quarter.  The margin grew to as many as 28 in the fourth before an 11-3 surge to close out the game for BVU.

Sophomore Nicole Lange scored a team-high 15 points off the bench to lead Buena Vista while Erin Gerke and Jennifer Schneider each added 11.  Gerke also dished out six assists while Destiny Einerwold pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds.

The Beavers finished the game shooting 35 percent from the field but was held to just 4-of-18 from long range.  They were plagued by 31 turnovers as the Duhawks turned those into 34 points.

Loras took 24 more shots than BVU and was 40 percent from the floor despite going 6-of-21 from beyond the arc.  The team made three of its six three-point buckets in the third quarter which helped extend the lead.  Courtney Schnoor led all scorers with 22 points for the Duhawks, on 9-of-12 shooting.

Buena Vista drops to 1-19 overall (0-11 A-R-C) and gets set to host the University of Dubuque on Saturday afternoon in a 2 p.m. contest as part of Alumni Day.
