Max Murphy highlighted the weekend for the Buena Vista men's indoor track and field team by finishing as runner-ups in the pole vault and 55-meter hurdles, respectively.
Bates cleared 4.34 meters to get past the third-place mark of 4.24 meters but came up just shy of the championship height of 4.44 meters. Freshman Joe Fisher also gave BVU points in the event by taking fifth at 4.14 meters.
Murphy ran a strong finals race in the hurdles, posting a time of 7.70 seconds which came up just two-tenths of a second away from the winning mark. It was a photo finish as Murphy edged Wartburg's Dallas Wright by 0.008 seconds. He later went on to place sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.61 seconds. That marks was about 0.5 seconds from a top-three placing.
The 4x400 team closed out the day by taking fifth overall with its fastest time of the year.
Overall, Buena Vista finished eighth with 28 points. The team will now send select members to the Last Chance Meet on Friday, March 6 at Wartburg College.
