GRINNELL, IA As the indoor season begins to wind down for the Women's Track Team, the confidence continues to build upwards. Over the weekend, 3 more school records fell for the program. "Our ladies were locked and loaded this weekend and three school records were broken, which is something to celebrate.
Emily Hoesing did it again by breaking her own school record in the 5K. She competed in a loaded field at the SDSU Indoor Classic and came away with the result we were hoping for.
Jadyn Forbes now holds the indoor mile record and is gaining more confidence daily. It was great to see her compete with focus. And
Becca Simpson shattered our indoor Weight Throw record with a toss of 16.20m," Coach Slack commented as he looked back on the weekend.
Emily Hoesing was able to double dip as she ran the 5K at SDSU Friday night, breaking her school record once again, then joined the team Saturday and helped the Distance Medley team win 1st place at Grinnell in a time of 13:17.78. That event was one of two 1st place finishes on the day for BVU, as they also took home 1st in the 5000 meter run.
Qiana Roderick ran a great race and racked up team points for the Beavers as she won the event with a time of 19:05.79.
Buena Vista would earn 13 more Top 10 finishes on the day, and propel themselves in to a 5th place team finish. In the 400 meter dash,
Tabitha Guyett ran a 1:00.84, good enough for a 2nd place finish, and teammate
Wren Klump earned a 6th place spot. BVU would get two 3rd place marks in the 60 meter dash with
Kylie Johnston, and in the weight throw, Rebecca Simpson would also get bronze with her school record of 16.20m. Another school record fell in the mile run as
Jadyn Forbes put up a 5:27.03, and a 7th place finish.
The Beavers also notched three 4th place events too,
Tabitha Guyett in the long jump, Rebecca Simpson in the shot put, and
Jade Hays in the 200 meter dash. "Our ladies walked away scoring in a wide variety of events and we are hoping to carry that momentum forward into the conference championships right around the corner. Very pleased with our results on the ladies side," Coach Slack said.
The team returns home for their next meet, as they host the NJCAA Regional Friday the 21st and Saturdaty the 22nd in Storm Lake.
