The Beavers were down by 10 points early on Saturday at Dubuque but then took control midway through the half and built a 43-37 halftime lead. They then pulled away early in the second and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way en route to a 93-77 road victory. Junior
Dominic Sesma finished with a game-high 21 points and four assists as four of the five starters scored in double figures. The team shot over 51 percent from the field in the game and used the strength of a 26-of-32 effort at the free-throw line.
About Simpson
The Storm built a 16-point halftime lead at home over Central on Saturday and cruised to a 91-71 victory over the Dutch to get back into the win column following a three-game losing skid. Aside from Saturday's win, Simpson also has a 13-point road win over Coe under its belt. The team's three conference losses have come at home versus Dubuque (77-68) and Loras (82-78) and on the road at 10th-ranked Nebraska Wesleyan (86-64). During conference play, the Storm are eighth in scoring (74.4ppg) but sit near the top at third in scoring defense (74.8ppg). Opponents are averaging just 6.8 three-point makes in those games which is second-best in the league. Conor Riordan is ninth in scoring (15.8ppg) and is just outside the top-10 in field goal percentage at 46.9 percent. He's also tops in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.6). Adam Reiter is a force at both ends, averaging 13.2ppg and grabbing a league-leading 10.2rpg. He's the only player in the conference to currently average a double-double in league play. Simpson was the coaches' pick in the preseason poll to finish second after going 16-10 a year ago and posting a 9-7 clip in conference play. Riordan was a First Team all-conference selection a year ago with Reiter landing Second Team honors.
About Buena Vista
The Beavers have chalked up consecutive wins over Luther, Loras and Dubuque, respectively, since suffering a tough double-overtime home loss to Coe back on January 2. During the streak, the team is scoring 87.3ppg and winning by an average margin of 14.3ppg. Senior
Timothy Jeffries is fourth in the league in scoring during conference play this season (16.5ppg) with junior
Dominic Sesma right behind in fifth (16.3ppg). Sesma is coming off a big week in which he was named the league's Performer of the Week. He registered 17 points, including the game-winning four-point play with under one second left in OT at Loras on Wednesday before adding 21 points at Dubuque. Jeffries became the 31st player in program history to reach 1,000 career points when he achieved the feat late in the second half of the win over the Duhawks. The team continues to chalk up points via the long ball, averaging 11.1 makes per game overall this season to lead the league. During conference play, it's slightly lower at 9.5 but that mark is still second only behind Dubuque (12.6). It's relied on its improved defensive play which is among the best in the league. It's hauling in a league-high 42.9 rebounds per game and is also tops in rebounding margin at 16.0. Junior
Lincoln Rock is averaging a league-leading 2.5 steals per game during conference play with fellow junior
Brendan Gary close behind in fifth at 1.7. BVU returns home after a week away and looks to improve on its 7-1 overall home mark.
