STORM LAKE, Iowa (December 30, 2019) -
Nicole Lange scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds,
Destiny Einerwold added nine point and nine boards, but Mount Marty was able to hold off the Buena Vista University women's basketball team, 73-62, in a game that was recorded as an exhibition game for the Beavers.
Lange made 1-of-2 free-throws with 6:15 left in the third quarter and that began a string of 20 straight points that she scored for the Beavers. She scored the final 17 for BVU in the third quarter as the team pulled within 53-51. She then nailed a three-pointer to begin the fourth quarter which gave the Beavers a 54-53 advantage.
The Lancers responded with nine straight points to take a 62-54 lead and would eventually push it to 15 late in the quarter before BVU cut it to 11 at the end.
Lange was 8-of-11 shooting from the field and made 5-of-10 at the free-throw line.
Jennifer Schneider also flirted with a double-double, scoring eight points and grabbing seven boards with
Cassy Miller also hauling in seven rebounds.
Erin Gerke was held to only four points but dished out seven assists.
BVU shot 40 percent from the field and made 8-of-24 from long distance. Defensively, the Beavers held a large margin on the glass, out-rebounding the Lances, 43-27.
Mount Marty (8-5) forced 24 Beaver turnovers and converted them into 37 points. The Lancers were led in scoring by Jamie Tebben's 25 points.
The Beavers will return to action on January 2 when they host Coe College at 5:30 p.m. in a make-up contest from November 26.
