Destiny Einerwold scored a team-high 15 points while
Nicole Lange added a career-high 10, but the Buena Vista women's basketball team came up short in the opener of the Simpson College Thanksgiving Classic on Friday afternoon, falling to Calvin College 71-53.
Calvin led 17-11 after the first quarter and kept that margin at 30-24 at the half. BVU fell behind by as many as 12 points in the third quarter but was able to get back as close as four at 52-48 just over one minute into the final stanza, but that was as close as the Beavers could get with Calvin closing the game on a 19-5 run.
The Beavers were held to 30 percent shooting overall and were only 5-of-16 from downtown. Calvin outrebounded BVU, 44-30.
Jennifer Schneider had a team-high six rebounds with
Vanessa Hamlett grabbing three offensive boards.
Gabby Timmer scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Calvin (5-2).
The Beavers dip to 1-5 overall and will face Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. to begin the final day of the Classic.
