ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Buena Vista volleyball team picked up its second straight 3-0 sweep on Saturday after defeating Macalester College in a non-conference match for its 11th win of the year.
A balanced attack on the offensive side helped get the job done against the Scots, as five different players finished with at least seven kills. Freshman
Taylor Caves led the way with nine on just 17 total attempts while
Hannah Smith was right behind with eight to go along with six digs.Â
Camryn McClintock and
Sydney McLaren each chipped in with seven kills as McLaren also added 13 digs.
Taylor Wedemeyer and
Savanna Wuest split time as setter in the match with Wedemeyer posting 17 assists and Wuest 11.Â
Summer Goss continues to pile up the digs, registering a team-high 20 in this match, to move into sole possession of third on the program's all-time list. She also had one of the team's four ace serves.
BVU had 16 more kills in the match than the Scots while holding them to only eight in each of the final two sets.
"Today was an excellent day for our middles," said BVU head coach
Aubrey Havlichek. "Taylor and Camryn combined for 16 kills and only four errors on 36 attempts. We continue to improve and find how dynamic we can be when we focus. Both setters stepped in to lead our offense in their own unique way, and we had the serve receive an defense to make it happen. We look to take this momentum into our last few matches!"
The Beavers improve to 11-12 overall and have won eight of their last 10 matches. They will look to reach the .500 mark for the first time all season when it travels to Luther College next Friday night, October 25, for an American Rivers Conference match with the Norse (6-18, 1-4 A-R-C) at 7 p.m.
