Box Score The Buena Vista women's soccer team held a 17-3 edge in total shots over the first 45:00 and continued to apply the pressure offensively in the second, but it was Bethany Lutheran getting a shot to hit off the cross bar and just into the goal midway through the second half for a 1-0 victory over the Beavers on Wednesday evening.
The Beavers spent the majority of the first half on the Vikings end of the field putting up shot after shot, but couldn't connect with the goal as several shots were just wide or slightly high.
Bethany Lutheran (3-3) was able to put a little bit more of an offensive stretch together in the second half, and the Vikings got the benefit of a bounce off the cross bar for the game's only goal. The officials had to stop and confer with each other to ensure that it was an actual goal.
BVU had four players finish with four shots in the contest but Holly Coogler and Kelsey Cheney were the only ones of that group with one shot on-goal.
For the match, the Beavers out-shot the Vikings, 23-8.
McKeely Tjaden made her first collegiate start and played a near flawless match in goal, recording four saves while going the distance, but was on the short-end of a tough bounce.
Buena Vista dips to 1-5 on the year and will go after that first home win of the year again on Sunday afternoon, September 23, with a 2:00pm match against visiting Augustana College (Ill.). It will also be Senior Day for BVU with each senior being recognized before the match.
