Duhawks Sweep Beavers on Tuesday Afternoon

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Buena Vista baseball team team returned to the diamond on Tuesday afternoon for an Iowa Conference road doubleheader at Loras College, but the Beavers saw their losing skid hit four games after losses to the Duhawks by scores of 22-3 (7 inn.) and 7-4.

It was all Loras from the start of game one, as the Duhawks scored in each of the first four innings, including five in the first and seven runs in both the fourth and sixth innings.  They outhit BVU, 21-2, and the two teams combined for nine errors.

Alex Savary and Porter Sartor had the only two hits for Buena Vista in the game as it allowed a season-high in runs.

Tyler Heineman suffered the loss after lasting just two innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits.

BVU got on the board first in game two with a run in the first on an RBI groundout by Bryce Rheault.  Loras, however, came right back with three runs in the bottom half to take a 3-1 lead.  BVU tied things up in the third on a Peyton Renning two-run homerun before the Duhawks came back in the home half with two runs of its own for a 5-3 lead.  The two teams traded runs in the fourth before the Duhawks (21-10, 10-6 IIAC) added an insurance run in the seventh.

Ryley McGregor was 2-for-3 for the Beavers while Parker Truesdell doubled and drove home one run.

Tate Holmes (1-4) took the loss.  He pitched 3.1 innings, was charged with six runs and walked four.  Gage Smart was solid in relief, allowing just an unearned run on three hits while striking out five over 3.2 innings.  Andrew Bower pitched a scoreless eighth.

Buena Vista falls to 12-17 overall (8-8 IIAC) and remains on the road this weekend for a three-game series at Simpson College.  Friday's game is set for 6:00pm with Saturday's DH pushed back one hour to 2:00pm.
