Box Score 2 Macalester College scored four times in the fifth and led 7-6 before erupting for 11 runs in the sixth en route to an 18-10 triumph over the Buena Vista baseball team on Friday morning at the Kino Sports Complex.
BVU got a solo home run from Devin Wagenman in the first and a two-run double by Parker Truesdell in the second to take a 3-1 lead. Macalester came back to tie it up at 3-3 in the third before scoring four more times in the fifth for a 7-3 lead. The Beavers did get three of those runs back in the bottom half when Peyton Renning doubled home a pair and then scored later in the frame on a wild pitch to make it 7-6.
Macalester, however, got momentum back on its side in the sixth with 11 runs and never looked back. BVU tried to mount a late rally, but was only able to come away with three runs in the sixth and just one more in the ninth.
The first three players in the Beaver line-up (Bryce Rheault, Renning and Wagenman) all had three hits as did Truesdell. Overall, the team pounded out 16 base knocks, including five for extra bases.
Macalester (7-5) had 18 hits in the game, including three home runs.
Tate Holmes got the start and suffered the loss after going 4.2 innings and being charged with seven runs on nine hits. Devon Van Houten pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth innings, striking out a pair, while Jayden Clark worked a perfect ninth and struck out one.
Buena Vista dips to 1-6 overall and will look to get back on track Saturday morning when it faces Salem St. in a doubleheader starting at 9:00am MST.
