Dubuque Hands Beaver Football 38-7 Home Loss

Box Score

The University of Dubuque came into J. Leslie Rollins Stadium on Saturday afternoon and outgained the Beavers 413-216, as the Spartans pulled away in the second half for a 38-7 victory.

Battling through windy conditions all game long, the running games were called on to help carry the load, and the two sides combined for 79 rushing attempts.  The Spartans, though, were able to take advantage of their 41 attempts by finishing with 226 yards on the ground and two scores compared to BVU's 99 yards.

Dubuque got on the board first following a high snap on a punt attempt by the Beavers, needing just five plays to go 26 yards, capped by a one-yard plunge by Dwayne Allen, Jr., who came in averaging nearly 150 yards per game on the ground.

The Spartans built a 21-0 halftime lead with a pair of second quarter touchdown passes, and then converted a 28-yard field goal attempt midway through the third quarter to make it 24-0.  They added a late touchdown pass in the quarter to go along with an 80-yard touchdown run in the fourth.  BVU got on the board just seconds before that final touchdown by Dubuque when Cole Miller hooked up with Eric Pacheco on a 25-yard touchdown which was the team's longest play of the contest.

Miller completed 11-of-24 pass attempts for 108 yards and the one score while being sacked five times.  Pacheco hauled in three catches for 41 yards.  He now has 10 touchdown grabs on the season, moving him into a tie for fourth in school history.  Miller now has 18 touchdown passes which is just four shy of his career-high of 22 set last season -  a mark that is also second in a season in school history.

Kobi Martin Jr. was the team's leading rusher at 34 yards on eight attempts.  Miller was next at 31 yards on 12 carries.

Dwayne Allen Jr was hedl to only 81 yards on 16 attempts for Dubuque (5-2, 4-1 A-R-C) while Bruno Kanam had 80 on only nine.  Quarterback Sean Duffy was 12-of-18 passing for 187 yards and three scores, while being intercepted once.

Reed Kruse led BVU with eight stops, while Gary Weaver had seven, including three for a loss.

Buena Vista heads into its bye week at 1-7 overall (0-6 A-R-C) and will be back on the road when it returns to action on Saturday, November 3, traveling to Nebraska Wesleyan for a 1:00 p.m. kick-off.
