Box Score 2 Holding a 2-0 lead against Cocordia-Moorhead, the Buena Vista volleyball team saw their opening day of the year come to a tough end as the Cobbers clawed all the way back to defeat BVU in five sets with a 15-6 victory in the fifth.
BVU took the first two by scores of 25-23 and 25-18 before Concordia extended the match with a 25-21 third set win. The Cobbers then hung on to win a tight 28-26 fourth set before scoring nine of the first 11 points in the fifth.
The Beavers also jumped out to a 1-0 lead against UW-Stevens Point to open the year in their first match of the evening, but the Pointers fought back and took the next three.
Senior Jade Schaap got her final collegiate season off to a solid start by leading the way with 44 kills and 25 digs for the day. Fellow senior Ali Grein was next with 28 kills and 25 digs to go along with five ace serves. Summer Goss, who's taken over the setter role dished out 81 over the two matches. Kylie Roe led the team with 57 digs while Serena Sandvig and Brooke Runneberg chipped in with six total blocks.
Buena Vista begins the year 0-2 and will be right back out on the court on Saturday to wrap up play at the Kathryne Pals Legacy Tournament. BVU opens against St. Scholastica at 1pm before taking on #4 Northwestern University at 3pm.
