Box Score Jasmine Demers finished with 17 points and nine rebounds, Claudia Larsen turned in 13 points and Sidney Beckman added 11 points, but it was a big second quarter by #10 Wartburg that helped the Knights hand the Beavers an 83-69 loss in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon insde of Levick Arena.
Buena Vista started strong, jumping out to a 12-3 lead before the Knights scored seven straight out of a timeout to make it a 12-10 contest. The Knights continued a torrid stretch from long range and eventually took their first lead of the contest with a pair of free-throws just before the end of the opening quarter and led 20-19.
Wartburg made 11-of-23 from beyond the arc in the contest and opened up a 45-34 halftime lead. BVU, which later trailed by as many as 17 in the second half, slowly chipped away at that deficit and made it a 71-65 contest with 3:44 to play.
The Knights cut the momentum away at the free-throw line, making four straight shots after a foul was called on BVU following the second made free-throw attempt. The Beavers were unable to get any closer than 10 the rest of the way.
Beckman finished the game making 3-of9 attempts from long range and now has 311 makes in her career. She'll have at least one more game to try and pull into at least a tie for second on the program's all-time list (Lexi Fisher, 216).
The Beavers were 41.7 percent shooting in the contest, but conencted on only 5-of-21 from downtown. The Knights also outrebounded BVU, 39-27, and made 11 more free-throws (26-11).ue
Buena Vista closes out the regular season at 13-12 overall (9-7 IIAC). The Beavers will now move onto next week's Iowa Conference Tournament where they will be the #4 seed and host #5 Coe College on Tuesday night. Tip-off of that contest is yet to be determined and will rely on the result of the BVU men's game later this afternoon.
