Senior David Jeffries scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds while sophomore Matthew Goodman came off the bench and posted a career-high with 11 points and seven boards, as the Buena Vista men's basketball team won a defensive battle on Tuesday night , 59-41, at Gustavus Adolphus.

Jeffries was 8-of-19 from the field with Goodman making 5-of-8 attempts.  Sophomore Canyon Hopkins chipped in with 10 points and senior Thomas Wisecup a career-high nine rebounds.

Both teams struggled from the floor, combining for 86 missed shot attempts, including 7-of-41, from downtown.  Both teams shot under 30 percent from the field in the first as BVU held a 21-18 lead.  The Beavers would find a little bit more of their touch in the second half, connecting on 40 percent from the field, holding the Gusties to 29 percent, as they pulled away over the final eight minutes.

Buena Vista improves to 2-1 on the year and gave head coach Brian Van Haaften his 399th career victory.  The team will look for its first home victory of the year as it hosts Greenville University on Saturday.  The Panthers (2-2) are averaging 120.0ppg and will come in following a 148-120 victory over Knox College on Tuesday night.
