Volleyball Closes out Regular Season Home Schedule with Win over Martin Luther

The Buena Vista volleyball team took the court on Senior Night against Martin Luther on Wednesday night, and the Beavers kept their perfect home record in tact after a four-set victory over the Knights inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.

It was all BVU in the opening set, as the Beavers stormed out to an 18-8 lead.  BVU had 14 kills in that opening set, while Martin Luther had seven kills and five errors, as the Beavers won the set, 25-12.

Martin Luther jumped out to the quick 5-1 lead in the second, but BVU did fight back to tie things up at 8-8.  The Knights, however, rolled off two straight points on consecutive attack errors by BVU, and they never looked back while hanging on for a 25-19 win to even the match at 1-1.

BVU then took control over the next two sets, combining for 24 kills and just three errors, while forcing 13 attack errors by the Knights, as they captured a pair of 25-12 victories to close out the match and capture their eighth straight win.

Senior Ali Grein turned in a match-high 18 kills with fellow senior Jade Schaap right behind with 15 kills and a match-high 22 digs.  Senior Jamie Navinskey, who's coming off a career night at Coe on Tuesday, followed up with 11 more kills and added to her league-lead in serving aces with four more in this match.  Mackenzie Gropel dished out 40 assists and Summer Goss had 19 digs and two ace serves.

BVU finished with a .276 attack percentage while holding Martin Luther to just .125.

The Beavers improve to 18-9 overall and wrapped up the regular season home schedule at 7-0.  The team then packed up and began its trip out east to New York where it will play a pair of matches on Saturday against St. Joseph's of Long Island and Brooklyn (N.Y.)
