Box Score The Buena Vista women's soccer team overcame a 3-1 halftime deficit on Wednesday afternoon at Martin Luther by scoring three unanswered second half goals, including the game-winner by Rachael Tice with seven minutes left to play.
Jenna Maurer put the Knights in front 2-0 with a pair of goals only three minutes apart midway through the opening half.
Junior Caroline Maher cut the deficit in half at the 33' with her team-leading ninth goal of the year. Martin Luther, however, responded just minutes before halftime to take a 3-1 lead.
From there, it was nearly all BVU, with Claire Arganbright turning in her third goal of the year nine minutes into the period. Maher struck again and extended her career-high with her 10th goal. She then added her fifth point of the day just into the 83' when she fed Tice with a pass up the middle that led to the game-winner.
Maher had nine shots in the match, including six on goal, to help lead the offensive charge.
The Knights held a slim 24-23 edge in total shots, but the Beavers had 14 shots-on-goal compared to only six by Martin Luther.
Rachel Novotny went the distance in-goal to pick up the victory. She recorded five saves in the process as BVU improved to 3-5-1 on the year.
Buena Vista returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it plays host to Wartburg College in an Iowa Conference showdown starting at 1:00pm.
