Box Score The Buena Vista volleyball team got double-doubles from Maddie Bardole and Jade Schaap on Tuesday night as the team went on the road for the first time in Iowa Conference play and remained perfect with a 3-1 victory at Nebraska Wesleyan.
Both teams weren't about to give-in throughout the first set which was narrowly contest from start to finish. It was tied 23-23 late before BVU rolled off the final two points for a 1-0 lead.
The Prairie Wolves built an early lead in the second before the Beavers rallied to close the gap late, but NWU was able to pull away late for a 25-20 win and square things at 1-1.
BVU was solid offensively all match long, especially in the third set, where it pounded out a match-high 20 kills. The Beavers, however, trailed 14-8 early on before rolling off four straight points to make it 14-12. Three straight kills by the blue and gold, coupled with a hitting error by NWU, gave BVU its first lead since it was in front at 6-5.
The two sides went back-and-forth down the stretch of the set with NWU actually holding set-point at 24-22. Bardole then recorded one of her 16 kills on the night to keep the set alive before Kylie Roe tied things at 24-24 with one of her three service aces.
Excitement continued as neither team would lose ground. The Prairie Wolves actually faced set-point three more times, but BVU had a response each time. A service error gave BVU a 29-28 lead, and then Asheley Pelton closed out the thriller with her only kill of the night.
The Prairie Wolves never really recovered from that heartbreaker as the Beavers went on to use that momentum to cruise to a 25-7 win in the fourth set and move to 2-0 in the IIAC.
Bardole had just two errors in her 42 attempts and posted a .333 attack percentage to go along with 18 digs and six block assists. Schaap registered a match-high 18 kills to go along with 14 digs. Grein was the third player with double-digit kills at 11 and had just one error.
Pelton also had a double-double with 30 assists and 11 digs while Roe had 29 assists and eight digs.
Brooke Runneberg turned in a team-high seven block assists.
Malory Dahl had a team-high 11 kills for NWU which dipped to 1-1 in league play and 8-6 overall.
Buena Vista improves to 11-8 on the year and gets set to host Wartburg College on Friday night at 7:30pm before Luther College comes to town on Saturday morning for an 11:00am showdown.
