Box Score Edgar Raya and Steve Nyaye each scored goals for Buena Vista on Wednesday night, but Northwestern added a late insurance goal and went on to hand the Beavers their first loss in three matches by a 4-2 score.
The Red Raiders wasted little time, posting the first goal of the night just 44 seconds into the match. Raya then tied things up midway through the period with his first goal of the year. Northwestern, however, came right back five minutes later to reclaim the lead and take a 2-1 advantage into the half.
Nyaye kept BVU in the match with his fourth goal of the season but the Red Raiders pulled away late with two goals over the final 20 minutes for their third win of the year (3-6).
Northwestern was on the attack for most of the night by holding a 39-10 cushion in shots, including a 17-7 margin on-goal.
Matt Tennyson, the reigning Iowa Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, suffered his first loss, despite recording 13 saves.
Buena Vista is now 4-4-1 on the year and will look to get back on track Saturday night when it hosts 18th-ranked Dubuque inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium at 7:30pm.
