Box Score

Trailing 11-4 as it went to bat in the eighth inning, the Buena Vista baseball team would go onto plate seven unearned run to tie things at 11-11 before senior Neil Marshall hit a walk-off double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Beavers to a dramatic 12-11 victory over Carthage College on Thursday afternoon.

Carthage, which took advantage of six Beaver errors in the contest, appeared to break things open with three more runs in the eighth to push its margin to 11-4.

Devin Wagenman led off the bottom half of the eight for BVU by reaching on an error by the Red Men shortstop.  That eventually led to seven unearned runs for the Beavers, including five with one out.

Bennett Mann had a two run single before Wagenman came through again with a two-run double to tie things at 11-11 with two outs.

Carthage left the go-ahead runner on third in the top of the ninth, as Dalton Mason picked up a big strikeout to end the threat.

After its first two batters in the ninth were retired, Devon Harms singled to right and proceeded to come all the way around and score the game-winning run one batter later when Marshall doubled to left center.
