Volleyball has Season End with Five-Set Loss to Coe at IIAC Tournament

Box Score

The Buena Vista volleyball team saw its bid for a third straight trip into the Iowa Conference Tournament semifinals come up a little short as the Beavers squandered a 2-1 lead to Coe College on Friday afternoon in the first round of the league tournament.

The Kohawks came out and grabbed the early lead with a 25-19 victory in the first set.  BVU battled back and took the next two by scores of 25-16 and 25-18.

After being held to under a .100 attack percentage in those losses, the Kohawks found their offense in the fourth with 15 kills and a .294 percentage to force the decisive final set with a 25-19 victory.

Coe then took that momentum into the fifth set and broke a 4-4 tie with three straight points before extending it to a 13-5 advantage.  BVU responded with five straight to make it 13-9, but the Kohawks finished things off with a 15-10 victory.

Junior Jade Schaap turned in a stellar performance with 20 kills and 11 digs while senior Maddie Bardole also went for a double-double, turning in 13 kills and 11 digs.

Freshman Ashley Pelton dished out 50 assists and had a team-high 19 digs as senior Sydnee Donnelli wrapped up her stellar career with 12 digs.

Buena Vista wraps up the year at 14-14 overall, marking its third straight season at .500 or above.
