Volleyball Closes Door on Regular Season with 3-0 Win over Bethany Lutheran

Box Score

The Buena Vista volleyball team wrapped up both its home and regular season schedules on Saturday afternoon on a high note by sweeping Bethany Lutheran, 3-0, inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.

Senior Maddie Bardole, who played her final career home match for the blue and gold, turned in a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs.  With her sixth kill, she surpassed 1,800 in her career.  Junior Jade Schaap led all players with 14 kills and a stellar .414 attack percentage.

The Beavers had their offensive groove working against the Vikings (9-16) as they committed only 11 hitting errors and had an attack percentage of .288 in the match.

Sydnee Donnelli was also playing her final career home match and chipped in with five digs.

Summer Goss dished out a team-leading 19 assists with Ashley Pelton right behind with 13.  The two also combined for 11 digs.

The match was tight throughout with BVU having to rally from an early deficit in each of the final two sets.

BVU broke open an 11-10 margin in the opening set by going on a 14-8 run to close it out.  The Beavers trailed 6-2 out of the gate in the second set before coming all the way back to even things at 7-7.  They kept the momentum going, as a kill from Bardole gave them a 17-12 cushion before going on to take the set, 25-21.

The Vikings scored six of the first seven points in set three before BVU again began to chip away.  They still found themselves down 10-5 before going on a 6-1 run to square things up at 11-11.

It was back-and-forth from there with the Beavers scoring five of the final six to hang on and win 25-22.

Buena Vista improves to 14-13 with the win and will take a two-match win streak into next weekend's Iowa Conference Tournament on November 4-5.  The Beavers will be the sixth seed and begin play against third-seed Coe College on Friday afternoon at 4:30pm inside of the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

The winner of that match will then advance to the semifinal round later that night at 7:30pm against second-seed Luther College.
