Box Score A night after being swept at home by Wartburg College, the Buena Vista volleyball team looked to quickly regroup as it stepped back out on the court Saturday, but the Norse held off a late surge by the Beavers to take the match 3-1.
Luther came out and hung on in a wild opening set winning 25-23. The Beavers then came back with a match-high 16 kills to take the second 25-21 and tie things at 1-1.
The Norse then went on a run to break open a 6-5 match in the third set by taking an 11-5 lead. BVU tried to cut the gap, getting back as close as 14-13, but Luther was too much down the stretch as it rolled off three straight and hung on for a 25-21 victory.
BVU scored the first four points of the fourth set and looked to be in control but Luther stormed back to make it 10-9. BVU again broke it open to a 17-9 lead but Luther came all the way back to even things at 19-19.
The Beavers took a slim 22-21 lead late, but the Norse rallied and scored the final two points of the set to win 25-23 and take the match.
Junior Jade Schaap turned in a match-high 21 kills and had just give kills to lead a trio of Beavers in double figures. Senior Maddie Bardole followed with 17 kills and seven digs while Ali Grein registered 11 kills and a pair of block assists.
Senior Sydnee Donnelli turned in four ace serves to go along with a team-high 12 digs. She's now just seven digs shy of moving into the top-two all-time in school history.
Jamie Sindlinger turned in a team-leading 14 kills to help lead Luther (14-5, 2-1 IIAC) which bounced back after seeing its 11-match win streak snapped with Friday night's road loss at Nebraska Wesleyan.
Buena Vista has now dropped two straight and sits 11-10 overall (2-2 IIAC). The team looks to get back into the win column when it steps back out on the court Wednesday night at Loras College.
