Rough Shooting Night Dooms Men's Basketball in Road Loss to Wartburg

Box Score

Kennedy Drey was the only player to score in double figures for Buena Vista finishing with 10 points, but it was Wartburg College taking advantage of a poor shooting night by the Beavers en route to an 88-60 Iowa Conference victory on Saturday afternoon.

Drey was 3-of-8 from the field and made all four free-throw attempts before fouling out.  Robby Burke came off the bench and went 3-of-4 from both the field and free-throw line to follow with nine points.  Nick Clark added eight points, six rebounds and four assists while Tanner Morris added eight points and eight rebounds off the bench.

The Beavers were held to only 5-of-30 shooting from long range and 30 percent overall.

BVU, which never led in the game, kept things close in the early going before Wartburg went on a 9-2 run to build a 21-11 lead midway through the first half.  The Knights led by as many as 12 points in the half, but the Beavers had an answer with a 12-6 spurt to make it a 27-23 game with 5:00 to go.  The two teams went back-and-forth down the stretch as Wartburg took a 37-31 lead into the half.

Clark made his only three of the game to start the second half and get BVU within three and the Beavers were still within five just five minutes in.  The Knights, however, took off on a 16-8 run over the next five minutes and led by double-digits the rest of the way.  The lead reached 20 with five minutes remaining in regulation.

Wartburg (11-8, 4-4 IIAC) had only two players in double figures but got a balanced effort with six player scoring at least eight points.

Buena Vista dips to 8-11 overall (3-5 IIAC) and will look to bounce back next week when it plays a pair of home contests beginning with league-leading Dubuque on Wednesday night at 8:00pm.
