The Buena Vista volleyball team played their home opener Tuesday night against Bethany Lutheran, and behind a strong offensive performance, the Beavers swept the Vikings in three sets to improve to 3-2 overall.
BVU set the tone early and rolled to a lop-sided 25-10 win in set one before cruising to 25-15 and 25-16 wins over the final two.
Maddie Bardole led the Beavers with 11 kills and a .846 hitting percentage. Emily Mathews and Jade Schaap followed with nine and eight kills, respectively. Laura Barry had 17 assists with Kix McArthur right behind with 15. Sydnee Donnelli chipped in defensively with a team high 10 digs.
"Tonight we came out against a team we haven't had a chance to scout much," said BVU head coach Lori Slight. "We served aggressive, and in order for us to compete in the Iowa Conference, we need to take teams out of their system, and that comes with serving aggressive."
The Beavers ended the match with 40 team kills, six service aces and 14 block assists.
"We got into our system quick and kept tempo on our side, which can be difficult to do against teams with different abilities," Slight added. "I couldn't be more pleased to start our home opener with a win."
The Beavers return to to the court Friday at the Washington University Tournament in Saint Louis.
