Box Score Buena Vista held a 1-0 lead at the half on Saturday afternoon at Martin Luther College, but then saw the Knights go on to score three second half goals, including two over the final six minutes, during the Beavers' 3-1 loss.
Marcus Krause scored his first goal in a BVU uniform on a dribbler in front of the goal that got past the Martin Luther keeper late in the 34'. Tyler Smaha and Fabian Salazar were each credited with assists on the score.
That's how the match remained until Martin Luther (1-1-0) evened the score during the 54'. The match then looked poised to head for overtime, but the Knights then went on to take their first lead at the 83' before adding a late insurance goal during the 88'.
Martin Luther held a slim 17-12 edge in total shots. Gum Riak had three shots, inclduing one on-goal. Krause, Eric Powers and Josh Hoffman all tallied two shots-on-goal to highlight the offensive efforts by the Beavers.
Jake Hutto went the distance in-goal and was charged with all three goals allowed, despite registering five saves.
Buena Vista, now 1-1-0 on the year, returns to action again on Wednesday evening, September 9, with a non-conference road match at Dordt College starting at 5:00pm.
