Volleyball Sweeps St. Olaf; Drops Thrilling Five-Set Match against Concordia-Moorhead

The Buena Vista volleyball team began the day with a 3-0 win over St. Olaf, but the day ended on a tough note after the Beavers dropped the final two sets against Concordia-Moorhead to fall in five sets and wrap up the Bethel Invite.

Against St. Olaf, Jade Schapp turned in 11 kills to help lead the offensive attack with Maddie Bardole Emily Mathews and Victoria Leffler each chiming in with seven.  Laura Barry dished out 25 assists with Kix McArthur adding 16.  Sydnee Donnelli posted a team-high 18 digs with Bardole chipping in with 12.

After winning by identical 25-20 scores in the first two sets, the Beavers cruised to a 25-10 win to close the match.

BVU dropped the first set to the Cobbers (4-1) in its final match of the Invite, but came back to go in front with wins of 25-17 and 25-23 in the next two sets.  Concordia, however, won a thrilling 25-23 set of its own in the fourth set, before rolling to a 15-9 victory in the decisive set to close out the match.

Schapp added a season-best 21 kills with Bardole also in double digits with a season-best 11.  Bardole also recorded 20 digs as Schapp turned in 12.  Donnelli chalked up a career-high 23 with McArthur also picking up 21.

Defensively, the Beavers were also aggressive at the next with 13 total blocks, including three solo from Mathews.

Buena Vista is now 2-2 overall and will get set for its first home match of the year this Tuesday night, September 8, against Bethany Lutheran.  Start time inside of Siebens Fieldhouse is set for 7:30pm.
