Box Score Samantha Arnold knocked home two goals for the Buena Vista women's soccer team on Friday evening, with Caroline Maher adding another, as the Beavers blanked visiting Martin Luther College, 3-0, in their 2015 home opener.
Arnold broke a scoreless match during the 29' when she curled in a shot from outside the box off a pass from Lindsay Meyer for her first career goal in a Beaver uniform. BVU outshout Martin Luther, 1-0, in the first half and held a 1-0 margin at the half.
Sophomore Caroline Maher made it 2-0 just minutes into the second half when she converted a penalty kick by tapping in a goal to the right of a diving keeper for her second goal of the year.
Arnold, who turned in a match-high nine shots (five on-goal) on the day, made it a three-goal margin during the 83' off a nice break-away feed from the right side from senior Tori Carson. With her assist in Tuesday's opener, she now leads the way with five points on the year.
The Beavers finished with 18 total shots, including 13 on-goal. Maher was the only other Beaver with mutliple shots as six others turned in one.
Rachel Novotny didn't see alot of action in the match, facing only three shots (two on-goal) while going the distance.
Buena Vista evens its record at 1-1 and will look to make it consecutive wins when it takes on Grace University (Neb.) on Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm. The Royals will play Martin Luther on Saturday at 2:00pm.
