Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Three

The Buena Vista volleyball team ran its current overall win streak to three straight matches as it opened up the 2015 Bade Invite, hosted by Washington University (St. Louis) with wins over Fontbonne University and Cornell College, respectively.

In the opener against Fontbonne, the Beavers used an explosive offensive attack from the outset, holding an 18-5 edge in kills, while winning set one, 25-17.  BVU then added 21 kills in the second and 15 more in the third to cap off the straight-set victory with scores of 25-18 and 25-22.

Junior Maddie Bardole turned in a season-high 19 kills and an attack percentage of .325.  She also added eight digs.  Sophomore Jade Schaap followed with 14 kills and a .440 percentage, while also chipping in 15 digs and three service aces.  Emily Mathews added 10 kills and a stellar .562 percentage.  Kix McArthur dished out 26 assists with Laura Barry adding 15.

The Beavers wrapped up the night against former Iowa Conference foe, Cornell College, a team that was receving votes in the latest AVCA national poll.

BVU jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of 25-20 victories.  The Rams did not have a single attack error in the third set while posting 14 kills, as they forced a fourth set with a 25-14 victory.

The Beavers, however, bounced back with 15 kills, while holding Cornell to eight digs and eight errors in the fourth set, en route to a 25-19 win.

Bardole again led the charge with 14 kills and 10 digs as she surpassed 1,100 career kills.  Schaap was close behind with 13 kills and a team-high 12 digs and now has five double-doubles in seven matches this season.  Victoria Leffler added seven kills and only one error to go along with a pair of service aces.  McArthur added 25 assists with Barry chipping in with 19.  Sydnee Donnelli matched Schaap with 12 digs.

Buena Vista improves to 5-2 on the year and will look to keep the current win streak going when it plays two more matches on Saturday, beginning with Carthage College at 10:00am.  The team's final match is slated for 2:00pm against Elmhurst.
