Men's Basketball Hits 14 Three's in Road Win over Blue Devils

Thomas Wisecup turned in a career-high 17 points with Sean Morgan right behind with 16, and the Buena Vista men's basketball team pulled away in the second half en route to a 96-80 road victory on Saturday afternoon at UW-Stout.

Wisecup tied for the team-lead with three long range buckets with Kennedy Drey, as the Beavers hit on a season-high 14 treys from beyond the arc.  Morgan went a perfect 7-for-7 from the field and made both free-throw attempts for the second-highest scoring output of his career.

Drey followed with 13 points, six rebounds and a career-high five assists.  He made 5-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-4 from downtown.  Bobbey Ivey also added 13 points, to go along with two assists and a pair of steals.

A total of 11 players scored for the Beavers in the contest, including eight that reached at least six points.  The Beavers shot nearly 62 percent from the field and 50 percent (14-of-28) from downtown.  They also converted 14-of-18 at the charity stripe.

The Blue Devils led 12-4 in the early going and extended it to 23-13 with 8:30 to play.  The Beavers then quickly came back with an 11-1 run to tie things up at 24-24 with 4:21 left in the half.  Morgan's layup with under 3:00 to go gave BVU a 31-29 lead before Drey nailed a three-pointer with two seconds left to make it a 38-32 lead at the break.

The Beavers then hit three from downtown over the first six minutes of the second half to help extend their advantage to 54-40.  From there, the team was in control the rest of the way as UW-Stout was unable to get any closer than 11.  BVU led by as many as 24 points with 4:43 remaining.

John Keefe scored 24 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out six assists to lead UW-Stout (2-4).

Buena Vista has won back-to-back games and is now 2-4 overall.  The Beavers will now have a week off for finals and will return to the court on Saturday, December 12 when they host Northwestern College (IA) at 4:00pm.
